This full day retreat will include chanting service ritual, a refuge and precepts ceremony, meditation and various practices, Dharma talks, and group discussion. Introductory to Buddhism and all levels welcome.
Monshin sensei and Shumon sensei of Tendai Buddhist Institute will travel from our head temple in New York to be guest leaders of the retreat. They are official representatives for North America of the Tendai school of Japanese Buddhism and Enryakuji on Mt. Hiei, Japan.
If you are interested in taking refuge formally and receiving the five lay precepts (jukai) at this retreat, please contact Seimon ([email protected]) as soon as possible by July 9 about it. A homyo (Dharma name) and materials need to be prepared in advance. Anyone who has already taken refuge may renew their commitment to the precepts during the ceremony...please remember to bring your kesa.
Lunch will be a potluck. Please bring vegetarian food without egg to share with everyone and yourself. Some light breakfast foods and drinks will be provided.
We humbly encourage you to give what you can; no one will be turned away for inability to pay.
Suggested Donation (dana practice): $75
If taking refuge, the senseis ask also your assistance with cost to provide your hangesa (lay robe worn around the neck) and nenju bracelet: $65 check to Karuna Tendai Dharma Center or KTDC
