Investiture Ceremony & Tendai Retreat Day
In the morning, Rev. Monshin Naamon, abbot of our headquarters temple Karuna Tendai Dharma Center (Jiunzan Tendai-ji) based in upstate New York, will conduct an investiture ceremony to transition spiritual leadership of our local Sangha, Great River Tendai, from Rev. Junsen Nettles to Rev. Yusei Van.
All guests are welcome to attend just the morning ceremonies; please let us know in advance if attending just part of the day or the full day.
The retreat will be led by Monshin sensei of Tendai Buddhist Institute, official North American representative of the Tendai School of Japanese Buddhism. The day will include service ritual, meditation, Dharma talks, and group discussion.
Dharma talk topics presented will be:
- What it means to practice Buddhism
- Gender and Buddhism
Light breakfast food will be provided.
For lunch, please bring vegetarian (without egg, dairy is fine) lunch for yourself and a small snack to share.
If you can, stay after 2pm to help with clean up.

Suggested Donation for the Retreat: Sliding scale $30 - $60. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. All gifts are tax deductible and sustain the practice space for all who may come.
