Fall Outdoor Retreat 2022

Outdoor Autumn Day Retreat

with Great River Tendai Sangha

Gyodo is a Japanese term referring to a wide variety of walking meditation practices often while chanting mantras or sutras.

Join Great River Tendai Sangha for a few hours of moderately strenuous walking meditation with mantra chanting at the Stupa Peace Park in Poolesville, MD. The day of practice will focus on the Five Wisdom Buddhas as we follow approximately 4 miles of unpaved trails that connect to stupas representing a mandala of the five colors and five directions of Buddhist cosmology. The park is run by the Kunzang Palyul Choling (KPC) Tibetan temple.

Logistics:

What to bring: Water, a vegetarian picnic lunch, sturdy walking/hiking shoes for trails, long pants recommended due to some brush in places, layers for temperatures 50 to 75F over the course of the walk, kesa (Tendai accessory, if you have one), hat if sunny.

After an opening introduction, we will walk together from the parking lot of the KPC temple to their Peace Park across the street.
